Skadi Heima, named after the Norse goddess of winter and the Icelandic word for "home," captures the spirit of Iceland's elemental beauty. Situated near the Víti crater in the Mývatn region, this ski cabin blends contemporary design with the stark, dramatic landscape, offering both refuge and a deep connection to nature.

The design of Skadi Heima draws from Iceland's volcanic and glacial heritage, reflecting the interplay between fire and ice. Triangular forms, inspired by ancient runes, ground the structure in cultural history and symbolize the region's dynamic geology. This interplay of geometric precision and organic shapes, reminiscent of glacier and rock formations, creates a space that feels both structured and fluid—an ordered disorder that mirrors nature's unpredictability.

PROJECT GALLERY

A Blend of Tradition, Design, and Nature

Skadi Heima is conceived as a warm retreat for skiers, seamlessly integrating essential amenities with a profound appreciation for the landscape. The central Rest and Warmth Area, featuring a modern fireplace, provides a cozy haven amidst the winter chill. Expansive panoramic windows offer stunning views, merging the interior with the surrounding natural beauty. A strategically positioned Viewing Deck ensures unobstructed vistas of the Northern Lights, enhancing the experiential quality of the cabin.

Sustainability is at the core of Skadi Heima's design. Utilizing local materials and geothermal energy, the cabin minimizes its environmental footprint while maintaining high thermal efficiency. Thoughtful integration of self-sufficient systems for water and waste management aligns with the project's commitment to environmental sensitivity.

Functionality meets innovation with well-organized equipment storage, a tuning station, and self-serve refreshment areas. The Interactive Info Point ensures visitors are informed and engaged, with updates on trail conditions and local folklore.

Skadi Heima is more than a ski cabin; it is a testament to architectural excellence that resonates with the Mývatn region's narrative, a modern saga set in the heart of Iceland's fire and ice. Skadi Heima invites visitors to immerse themselves in a uniquely Icelandic experience, merging comfort, culture, and the natural splendor of the land.
